Hiking in Denia: The Best Trails to Explore
When you come to learn Spanish in Denia, you don’t just leave with new language skills — you also take-home unforgettable experiences! This beautiful city on the Costa Blanca is not only the perfect place to study, but also to enjoy the incredible natural surroundings.
Today we’re sharing some of our favorite hiking routes in Denia. These trails are perfect for unwinding after class, practicing your Spanish with classmates, and above all, falling in love with the Mediterranean landscape around us.
1. Vía Verde de Denia: A Peaceful Walk-Through Orange Groves
We start with an easy and pleasant route: the Vía Verde. This former railway line has been transformed into a path for walkers and cyclists — ideal for a light walk or even a jog. The trail is mostly flat, which makes it perfect for beginners or a relaxed sunset stroll.
Along the way, you’ll pass fields of orange and almond trees, with beautiful views of the Montgó Natural Park. It’s also a great place to practice nature-related vocabulary… and why not bring a picnic basket?

2. Cueva del Aigua: History and Mystery on the Montgó
If you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, we recommend the hike to the Cueva del Agua — a hidden cave on the slopes of the Montgó. This hike is a bit more challenging, but totally worth it. You’ll reach a cave carved into the rock, full of fascinating history and spectacular views of the sea.
It’s a perfect weekend excursion, especially if you enjoy mountain hiking and want to explore the wilder side of Denia. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to pick up new vocabulary related to geology and local history.

3. Montgó Summit: Conquer Denia’s Mountain
We can’t talk about hiking in Denia without mentioning the climb to the Montgó summit. At 753 meters high, this mountain dominates the city’s landscape. Reaching the top is a real challenge — but the view is simply unforgettable.
From the summit, you can see the entire bay of Denia, Jávea, and even Ibiza on a clear day. This hike is demanding, so good fitness and plenty of water are essential, but if you’re up for it… it’ll be one of the highlights of your stay!

4. Cova Tallada: A Hidden Gem by the Sea
Want to hike along cliffs and end up in a cave carved into the coastline? Then the route to Cova Tallada will be your favorite. This hike combines mountain paths, sea views, and a touch of adventure.
The trail starts in Les Rotes and follows the rocky coastline to this spectacular sea cave. It’s a fantastic place for photos, exploration, and — if the sea is calm — a swim. One of the most unique hikes in Denia, especially for those who love extraordinary landscapes.

5. Torre del Gerro: A Scenic Hike with History.
Finally, we suggest a short but very special walk: the route to the Torre del Gerro, , a 16th-century watchtower perched on a cliff. . It’s a steep but brief hike with amazing views over the Mediterranean.
From here, you can also connect to longer trails, like the one leading to Cova Tallada. A great plan for a relaxed afternoon — with a touch of local history and some Spanish practice along the way.
