Xátiva is a Spanish city with a great historical legacy. Visiting Xátiva is a perfect excursion for students in school groups in Spain to learn about Spanish history and culture.
Xátiva takes pride in being the birthplace of the Borja family, one of the most powerful families of the Renaissance. The family gained worldwide fame with two popes, Alfonso de Borja (Callixtus III, 1456-1458), and his nephew Rodrigo de Borja (Alexander VI, 1492-1503). This is one of the reasons why its walls hold so much historical richness.
Our excursion will begin by exploring the old town of Xátiva, with its narrow cobbled streets and historical monuments. Students will feel transported through time as they walk through the historic centre, accompanied by their leaders.
We will visit the majestic Xátiva Castle, located on top of a hill and offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Here, students will learn about the rich history of the castle and its significance in the region. They will be able to explore its towers, walls, and halls, while learning about medieval life in Spain.
Continuing our excursion, we will head to the Collegiate Church of Santa María, an architectural gem with a beautiful Gothic façade. They will appreciate its impressive interior and learn about the importance of art and religion in the history of Spain.
As we wander through the streets of Xátiva, we will come across charming squares, such as Plaza de la Trinidad, where students can enjoy some free time to explore and practice their Spanish with locals in an authentic setting.
As part of our excursion, an optional visit is the Almudaina Museum, with exhibitions that tell the history of Xátiva from Roman times to the present day. It will be an educational and enriching experience that allows them to expand their knowledge about the region.
Xátiva is, in essence, an ideal destination to combine the study of Spanish with an enriching cultural experience.
